Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Services
I am a Registered is Mental Health Nurse (NMC Registered 2003). Since qualifying, I have gained additional training and expertise in several psychological models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotional Coping Skills Training, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I can adapt these models for individual needs and preference and can combine models if required. These will be discussed during our first appointment together so that therapy is tailored to your needs.
My aim as a therapist is to help develop a shared formulation that is bespoke and individualised, that brings awareness to and understanding how your difficulties may have developed and are being maintained. This acts as a “roadmap” for our therapeutic understanding and intervention and will be covered in the initial assessment session(s). I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful therapy, it offers a safe space to work collaboratively, to explore and understand your difficulties and we will agree on how many sessions to meet for (usually six to 24, depending on the duration and complexity/severity) and help you work towards your set goals and values. Each session will last for 50 minutes.
Please note, therapy is not a “cure”, however my passion lies in working diligently, alongside people who may be struggling with life challenges, to create a safe, nurturing and supportive environment, allowing space for reflection and growth, that cultivates a sense of hope, helps build confidence, resilience, develop new skills and awareness, to help make changes and assist you to continue your life journey.
As a result of my extensive training and clinical experience I am able to treat a wide range of presentations, including (but not limited to):
- Anxiety disorders, including health anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), Body Dis-morphic Disorder (BDD) Trichotillomania (TTM);
- Mood disorders, including depression / low mood, mood swings, anger, low self-esteem, post-natal depression;
- Trauma, including single-event traumas (e.g. a car crash) or multiple traumas (e.g. childhood abuse);
- Interpersonal issues, such as difficulties forming or maintaining relationships.
Fundamentally, I work in a person-centred way which means having unconditional positive regard with personal values and goals be at the heart our work together.
Occasionally, it may be that CBT is not the right approach, or that another service would be better equipped to support you (e.g. an NHS or voluntary service, if there are risks from self-harm, abuse or suicidal thoughts). I am happy to ‘signpost’ to other services if this is appropriate.
